In the ornithology and more specifically in the canary breeding, we need to have several factores in mind.

The environment is without a doubt one of the most important factors.
All the breeders should think in having a good space that will constitute the house of the small birds during a great part of their life. This way, all the care is little because we are talking in a space that will be used for the birds mating and for the birth of the youngsters.

So, there are some factors to keep in mind:

  1. The Temperature
Depending on the species there are several nevels of temperature appropriated to them. For instance, some fragile exotic species demand for special conditions of temperature and humidade.
However, if the bird is well fed it could support cold easily, while a very high temperature can easly kill.
The temperature period between 12ºC and 20ºC are appropriate to the birds in any period of their life.
  2. Humidity
Besides the temperature the humidity factor should not be despised. Any breeder should have in his birdroom a higrómetro, this equipment allows to read humidity air levels. A lot of times this factor is despised by the breeders and constitutes a lot of times a harmful factor for the canary breeding.
Giving the example of my birdroom, in mating season I have about 80 to 90% of air relative humidity, that is a extremely high value. The level should be about 50 to 70%. To help controling this factor it is good to have a dehumidifier. This equipment is one of the best investments that a breeder can do.
But besides this equipment it is advisable to have a lot of fresh air in the room.
  3. The Illumination
The birdroom should be a place where exists, if possible, natural illumination. In some cases it is also used artificial illumination that can help to increase the day light, that is very important in the mating season. in that season we should give the birds about 12 hour of light
