A good feeding is fundamental for a good development of the birds and their maintenance. The feeding should supply the needs of the organism and their multiple functions:

  • Growth;
  • Skeleton development;
  • Maintenence;
  • Energy and Heat production ;

A good, clean and appropriate seeds mixture, it's the base of a good feeding.. Sometime people just want to buy cheaper seeds, and then arrive the problems with bird breathing, intestinal problems, due to the bad quality of the seeds. Besides the mixture could be given some vitamin supplements that will help birds to complete their needs. These supplements can be given in the water or in the soft food. The soft food should be given in a regulary base.

There are some cares that a breeder should know:

  1. The Water - The water constitutes 70% of the weight of a bird, so it is easy to understand the importance of this element in the birds diet. This way, the water should be supplied daily to guarantee a good quality and to avoid dirtiness and bacterias that are harmful to the health.
    During the summer the high room temperature increases the possibility of germs multiplication in the water, that could became a “diseases culture”.
  2. Proteins - The alive fabrics are formed starting from the proteins, that are mainly in the foods of animal origin (eggs, fish, meat) and in the seeds.
    In the adult birds, these proteins are to compensate the wear and tear of the alive fabrics and for that the needs are more reduced than in the newly born ones, where the organic growth speed organic is enormous.
    The need of the proteins is quantitative and qualitative, being these constituted by amino acids, some denominated essential, they cannot be synthesized by the organism of the birds, and they have to be obtained through the foods.
    Without these acids, the growth will be interrupted or late, limiting the growth of the youngsters.
    This lack can be lessened with the aid of vitamin supplements and the use of elements as cod-liver oil.
  3. The Carbon hidracts - The "Glúcidos" or carbon hidrats, are sugar that they stand out for:
    1. Simple Sugar: Glucose, fructose, maltose,...
    2. Sugar substances associators: polissacáridos, of among which the amido is present in the seeds.
  4. This hidracts produce energy that help to balance energies spent by the birds.
    Giving an example, it is advisable that after periods of great effort (breeading, contests, exhibitions, trips) we should administer Glucose in the water or in the soft food during two or three following days, to compensate the spent energies.

  5. The minerals
    Certain minerals are necessary to allow the skeleton formation (Calcium, Match). The calcium and match assimilation is regulated by D3 vitamin which corrects the eventual unbalances among these two elements, avoiding a deficient fixation on the bones that could create deformed bones .

    This way and mainly in breading time we should put in the breeding cages:

    1. Peel of Oyster;
    2. Coral Grit;
    3. Vegetable coal;
    4. Liquid Calcium;
    5. Cod-liver oil (rich in AD3 vitamins)
  6. The Vitamins
    The vitamins are essential for the life. The lack of vitamins can have as consequence several disturbances denominated avitoses that can sometimes provoke the death.
    The vitamin support should be supplied by a good feeding, that should be enough to guarantee a good health condition and a better resistance to the diseases.
    However, it is advisable the use of a good vitamin complex to correct eventual feeding deficiencies.
